Introduction: A college common room is a gathering place for the students of a college. In their spare time between classes, students come to the common room and enjoy themselves. A common room is always full of laughter, happy chatting, music, and indoor games.

Arrangement: A college common room is often equipped with certain things for the entertainment of the students. They include TV set, radio set, cassette player, newspapers, and magazines. There are also provisions for indoor games such as carom, table tennis, chess, ludo, etc. A college common room invariably has comfortable chairs for the students to sit in.

Importance: The importance of a common room in every college is beyond dispute. It is a place of recreation and entertainment for the students of a college. Students can utilize their idle time in a common room and have a good time. A common room also plays an important role in improving the mutual relationship among the students. They come to a common room, chat with one another and exchange their views. In this way, a common room contributes to creating common minds. It also plays a role in developing fellow-feeling and friendship building.

Demerits: There are also certain demerits of a college common room. A number of problems may be linked to a college common room. First of all, some students may like the common room more than their classes. They may become indifferent to their studies and become engrossed in entertainment. Secondly, due to the excessively free environment of a common room students may lose their moral strength and lose their sense of discipline. Thirdly, they may get involved in immoral and diseased politics in an environment lacking stringent discipline.
