Introduction: Gambling is a problem with a deep negative impact on society and other aspects of human life. It is the betting of money or valuable things on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intention of monetary gain or winning valuable materials or goods. At present, besides playing cards and casinos, online gambling is organized on the occasion of playing football, cricket, etc. Gambling, whether offline, online or whatever, has a devastating effect on society. Millions of people and families are affected by gambling all over the world. In America alone, problem gambling affects more than 15 million people. More than 3 million of these are considered severe problem gamblers, otherwise known as gambling addicts or pathological gamblers.

Bad Impacts of Gambling: Gambling can strain one’s relationships, interfere with responsibilities at home and work, and lead to financial catastrophe. It may even lead one to do things he never thought possible, like stealing money to gamble or taking money meant for his children.

Reasons for Gambling: The main reason for gambling is the lure of making quick money. People want to be rich quickly by dint of gambling. Even rich people gamble for being richer. Some of the other reasons for gambling usually cited by the gamblers have been numbered below:

  1. Provide excitement, and get a rush of adrenaline.
  2. To be more social, overcome shyness.
  3. To numb unpleasant feelings, not think about problems.
  4. Boredom or loneliness.
  5. To relax after a stressful day.
  6. To solve money problems.

Treatment: Gamblers may think they cannot stop, but the addiction to gambling is treatable. It is possible to seek professional help to overcome one’s gambling problem and regain control of his life. For this, at first, one has to admit that he has a problem and works with a strong will under professional guidance. Some of the measures that may be taken to overcome the craving for gambling habit have been mentioned below:
