Introduction: Students are the future leaders of a nation. After equipping themselves fully with education, they need to come forward to serve the nation for the betterment. To this end, it is imperative that they get a clear idea about society and the social problems. It can also be expected that they will devote themselves to serving society from the beginning.

Scopes of Service: There is enough scope for the students to serve society. Bangladesh is beset with many problems. The major ones are illiteracy, population growth, unemployment, superstition, health and sanitation, terrorism, natural calamities, etc. Students can play an active role in removing some of the social problems. For this, they need not hamper their studies. They can serve society in their spare time and long vacations. Students’ possible roles in removing some of the problems have been described below:

Illiteracy: Students can play an important role in removing illiteracy from the country. They can volunteer in setting up and teaching in night schools and Friday schools. In those schools, illiterate adult people and working children may be imparted education free of cost. Such steps will certainly be very helpful in removing illiteracy from the country.

Agricultural Development: Students can play an important role in the agricultural development of the country. Thus helping in the poverty alleviation of the country. Most of our farmers are unaware of the scientific cultivation methods. Students can make them aware of scientific cultivation methods. Such activities will certainly increase the agricultural production of the country and lead the country towards self-reliance.

Health and Sanitation: Students can help in improving the health and sanitation status of the country. They can teach the mass people about the basic rules of health and sanitation. They can encourage people to drink pure water, use sanitary latrines, and adopt other basics of health and hygiene. They can inspire people to get their children vaccinated and give their children enough green and red vegetables to save their children from blindness.

Population Growth: The population of Bangladesh is growing at a very high rate. Students can encourage people to use family planning methods and keep their families small.

Natural Calamities: Bangladesh is beset with natural calamities. Many natural calamities like floods, cyclones, droughts, etc. consistently strike this country. Students can help the people of the country under such emergencies. They can make people aware and give important instructions regarding different natural calamities. They can also collect donations and distribute relief among the victims of natural disasters.

Conclusion: Students are the educated section of society. So, their role is very important in the social reconstruction of the country.
